Entrepreneurship Educators' Perspective on the Skills of an Entrepreneur (Future-ready skills)

Teachers of the INCubatoredu high school entrepreneurship program provide valuable insights into the skills and qualities that define successful entrepreneurs. Their perspectives shed light on how similar entrepreneur skills are to durable or 'future-ready skills' that serve students regardless of path.

  1. Determination and Grit: Entrepreneurs are driven individuals who don't give up easily when faced with challenges. They possess the grit necessary to persevere through adversity and setbacks. This resilience allows them to continue working towards their goals, even when the path is difficult.

  2. Flexibility and Adaptability: Entrepreneurs are open to different solutions and are not overly committed to a single course of action. This adaptability enables them to pivot when necessary, adjusting their strategies in response to changing circumstances or feedback.

  3. Collaboration: They recognize the value of working well with others, especially within their team, and understand that diverse skills and perspectives can contribute to more innovative and effective solutions. Effective teamwork and collaboration are essential for bringing ideas to life.

  4. Risk-Taking: Entrepreneurs are willing to step out of their comfort zones and take calculated risks to pursue their goals. They understand that entrepreneurship often involves uncertainty and the possibility of failure. Embracing risk is part of their mindset.

  5. Perseverance: Entrepreneurship is not without its share of failures and setbacks, and entrepreneurs recognize that failure is a natural part of the entrepreneurial journey and are willing to learn from their mistakes and try again. This determination to keep going is a hallmark of successful entrepreneurs.

  6. Creativity: They can think creatively and see opportunities where others might not. Entrepreneurs often challenge the status quo and develop innovative solutions to problems. Their creative thinking fuels their ability to identify and capitalize on opportunities.

  7. Curiosity: Entrepreneurs have an insatiable desire to learn and explore new possibilities. They constantly seek knowledge that can inform their decisions and inspire new ideas. This curiosity drives them to stay both informed and open-minded.

  8. Overcoming Self-Doubt: Successful entrepreneurs push past self-doubt and the fear of failure. They maintain confidence in their abilities and ideas, enabling them to diligently pursue their entrepreneurial ventures.

  9. Brainstorming: Entrepreneurs keep their minds active and receptive to new ideas and opportunities. This continuous mental activity allows them to identify problems that need solutions and to generate creative ideas to address them.
